World Life Expectancy — SQL Analysis

Question
How has life expectancy changed across 193 countries between 2007 and 2022, and which factors is it linked to?
What I did
Cleaned 2,941 rows in MySQL — removed 3 duplicate records, filled 8 missing status labels and estimated 2 missing values — then answered seven questions with SQL.
What I found
The global average rose from 66.8 to 71.6 years, with a dip in 2020. Developed countries averaged 79.2 years against 66.8 for developing countries.

UK Crime — Big Data Analysis

Question
Do three widely repeated claims about UK crime hold up when tested against 65 million police records?
What I did
Processed the records with Apache Spark on an Azure virtual machine, joined them with ONS population data, and used time-series forecasting, correlation and regression.
What I found
Burglary fell by about half between 2011 and 2021, so the claim that it was rising did not hold. Merseyside ranked 5th, not 1st, on the weapons-offence rate used as a firearms measure.

About

I'm Ye Lin Naing (Leo), a Computing graduate from Northumbria University, where I completed a BSc (Hons) in Computing with First Class Honours in July 2026. Before that I studied for a Higher National Diploma in Computing at YOUTH International College in Yangon, Myanmar.

I'm interested in the practical side of data: taking a messy dataset, checking it carefully, asking a clear question of it and explaining the answer so that someone can act on it. My projects so far have used SQL, Python and Apache Spark, and I'm working towards the Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst (PL-300) certification to build my business intelligence skills.

I'm at the start of my professional data career and I'm looking for an entry-level role where I can keep learning from an experienced team. I'm based in Newcastle upon Tyne and open to relocating within the UK or to Southeast Asia. I speak English fluently and Burmese as my first language.

    • Worked with a team of 8 to 10 staff at peak times, moving between stations as priorities changed.
    • Trained new crew members on food preparation, safety rules and customer service.
    • Named Star of the Shift several times and Employee of the Month (May 2026).
    • Worked alongside the final year of my full-time degree.
